=====================

Pictured above is the petition submitted by 7/8th of the Cherokee Nation
(approx 15,000 signatures) repudiating the sham election in support of the
New Echota treaty which authorized the removal of the Cherokees from their
traditional lands to Indian Territory (Oklahoma). Despite 7/8ths of the tribe
saying the election which authorized the treaty was a fraud, the U.S. Senate
approved the treaty, and the "Trail of Tears" began not long thereafter. This
happened despite a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court supporting the majority
of the Cherokee people. President Andrew Jackson refused to accept the court's
ruling, and ordered the removal of the Cherokees.
