Erin Gruwell and 'Freedom Writers'
"Freedom Writers" is a new movie starring Academy Award Winner Hilary Swank. Inspired by the
true-story of Teacher Erin Gruwell, it focuses on the diaries of Long Beach teenagers following
the Los Angeles Riots. On November 8, 2006, Gruwell joined us in studio, along with one of her
actual students, to tell us how their struggle to overcome racism became a feature film.
